Decals or techniques for painting trim on tunics?

Anyone have an idea or technique for painting the trims around the bottoms and cuffs of tunics?

I'm having a very difficult time painting interesting patters on the sleeves and tunics of my Dark Ages guys.

Like these guys but even more fancy.
