So a copy of Gears is on its way to me right now. Who has had experience playing the game? What did you think of it?

I've heard it plays very well and is pretty fun.the horde games are apparently very stressful but fun and the single player games are good.
I really wanted to grab a copy but couldn't get one for under £60 when i was looking, which is a shame because it's pretty high quality.

I only played it once, but it looked very tough (we lost). Yet, it was fun, and being tough suited the theme.

I'm looking forward to trying it with the misses. Hoping to paint the models when I get around to it.

I played it quite often in the last year with my two gaming buddies, we liked it a lot. The components are of the usual high quality that is to be expected of Fantasy Flight Games, especially the miniatures have an incredible amount of detail and most are multi-part pre-assembled. The game system is quite elegant and captures the atmosphere of the video game well. There's a lot of reading involved becasue you constantly have to read all the order cards on your hand (up to seven) in order ( ;) ) to choose the best for the current situation. The AI system works great too. The scenarios are varied and some all are pretty hazardous to say the least, with some being very difficult (Porcelain Shop!). This is a game where your small squad stands against all odds and has to fight through an endless horde of Locust warriors, you always have to push forward, and ammunition and health is scarce. I'd say "The Coal Train" (Cole) is the most important character to have in your team, his guard-at-any-time ability will mean the difference between life and death multiple times in each scenario.

Before playing, I stringly suggest to closely read the rules regarding "attacking" and "dealing damage" as this is something that can be confused, and there are some items and actions that have svery specific wording regarding these two aspects, so play close attention. Other than that, go and have fun!  8)

P.S.: I also suggest writing the character's initials onto their bases to differentiate between them, and to buy a small sorting box for all the cardboard tokens.

Assuming that as per the xbox game, cover is crucial and you can bring a chainsaw to a gun fight if you're close enough? ;)
