It was fiddly as hell and needs refining. Some sort of jig is called for.

Possibly. One needs to space the pins evenly and with the right spacing. And you need them to stay in place as you glue the strips without the glue locking them to the jig. And the grip of the jig needs to be firm enough for you to snip the pins.

Yeah, that's possible. would probably need a few goes to get the 'fit' right though.
