I got 'reasonable' results by doing the following.
1) Take a cast spear (I always replace them with wire)
2) Crimp it (several times) with a set of pliers.
3) Bend it (easy part) to the desired shape.
4) Glue it in place (the fiddly bit)
5) Paint it up. It does pass muster.

That too, it's just that I'm stingy. Solder I have to buy, bendy cast spears I have. :D
