Any suggestions for Plastic Feudal Bowmen?
« on: September 09, 2013, 07:54:36 PM »
Now that the Knights, Spearmen and Crossbow men for my Feudal Army are all sourced from Fireforge the quest now starts for Bowmen the two options Im thinking of are GW Bretonnian Peasant archers :o (I know what your thinking) but they would really fit in very well...apart from the bows which are a little too chunky. The other option I was looking at would be Fireforge bodies with Perry's archers arms, not all the arms would be suitable though. Any other suggestion? :?

With the right paintjob (and seeing your other models that’s not going to be a problem) I think you can use the old Bretonnian archers if you can get your hands on some.

Here are mine.

Unfortunately I don’t got any Fireforge miniatures so I can’t make an scale picture but I think they would match pretty good.

If your not married to idea of metal the peasant bowmen can be "Enhanced"  lol with the much nicer matching metal bowmen from the same era

M'lord Bishop, I believe I still have some unused frames of the classic plastic Bretonnian bowmen, should you decide to go down that route. PM me if you're interested.

Cheers

I am just now prepping some very old metal bretonnian archers (from before the boxed set plastics), and I would like to know how these scale up with those old Perry sculpts? The bretonnians are noticeably smaller than the 6th Ed plastic imperials.

It depends on how picky you are I guess....but to my eye the 3rd edition and earlier sculpts are a bit too small to fit with these later 5th edition sculpts.

Could you kitbash any of the Fireforge stuff?  I'm not a medieval nut, so I can't tell how grossly-wrong certain eras are when trying to kitbash.  They sure give a good likeness to some of those Bretonnians though.

If the Lord Bishop does not take you up on this, I might. I only have 8 of the old metal Bret bowmen, and I don't mind som variation in height, as I almost exclusively play skirmish games.

Thanks for the offer Iain :) But I've decided to more with the peasant look for the Bowmen. So it looks like GW's latest chaps or some kit bashing is ahead.

Jason.
