Dwarven Forge - Online Dungeon Map Tool
« on: September 27, 2013, 01:55:54 PM »
So, I don't know how useful this will be to some people, but Dwarven Forge released a nice "dungeon layout" tool for people who own Dwarven Forge stuff, so you can doodle and mess around with setups without leaving the computer.  However, this can also be used as a tool to create and print dungeons for people who may be wanting to do some role-playing etc.  I know this is a miniatures-based forum mostly, but it's a cool little tool.

Thought some people might find it handy.

PS: I haven't messed around with trying to print anything yet, so I don't know if it's really worthwhile for D&D etc.  Could be?

Honestly it's pretty limited.  :-I

But there is an awesome free generic tool called TileSystem and folks have contributed all the Dwarven Forge tile sets to it.

Here are two links. I can't remember what I took from which, but between these two I think you should find everything:

http://www.colinburns.com/games/mastermaze/index.html

It takes some jiggling to set it up but it's worth it. I wouldn't know how to begin playing with my DF stuff without it.

There is one flaw that you may encounter once you get up and running, which is that the files you save your maps in are entirely dependent on the way you've built your file directory tree to store the df sets. That is, unless your setup is the exact same as mine we can't share files. Essentially the map files are xml and point to the location of the individual tiles rather than store them in the map file itself. There really should be an option to piggy-back the tile graphics in a companion file so you can share the map files online or use them again if you've rearranged your folders. Other than that it's more proof simple is quite often better!

I thought the same. Had a doorway then tried to make a single tile wide corridor but couldn't.

Yeah, I was more hoping they'd eventually add all the pieces from their various collections to it (I own almost every set from their dungeon line).  Who knows if it'll happen.

The rotating tool has a mind of its own.
