Hi,

I just finished the Undead 8 units last night, now they are completly finished and varnished. Tommorow I'll make good pics, but waiting for this, I post a really bad pic of it, since "without a pic it didn't happened"  lol

I post also a sneak pic of armoured polearm ratmen from pendraken, I'll use it for elite troops for my ratmen RRTK army. I really like the pendraken ratmen range, really characterful.

Here's the 8 undead skeleton warriors units ! Next : the undead cavalry (from Kallistra too). I'm still not sure how to finish painting them, since the skeleton horses still have a bit of flesh on them...I'm a bit worried that if I paint the flesh parts, the overal result will be messy from a tabletop distance point of view  ???

Wow great job!

How would you rate the difficulty of getting such results (and I suppose how would you rate your painting skills), I often Wonder if 10mm is harder/easier that 28mm or just different?

thanks !

It's easier, definitly. Or should I say it's faster.

The tuffest job was to make the bases. Add the texture, paint, turf, etc...Was as long as painting the minis.

Painting 10mm minis is (for me) a systematic process : first rough wetbrush in darker base color on the main color (bones for undead, fur for ratmen, armor for knights, for example), than first higlight.

THen,  add the details : blades, sticks, banner, or whatever. Just a plain paint contrasted touch.

than wash (here, devlan mud citadel) the whole figure, and finally, apply last very light highlight (as a drybrush, sometimes) on each part. Done  :D

Undead minis are easier than some other races to paint, so maybe it will be diferent with the future dwarfs or ratmen I'll paint.

I paint minis (mostly 28mm) since I'm 15, now I'm 34. I'm not a "concours" painter in any way. I'm just a decent tabletop level painter, in my opinion at least  lol

Despite their diminutive size the Little Living Impaired Horde looks SPLENDID! I love the way you did the shields & the bases. VERY WELL DONE!
The Tiny Rat Guys look to be even cooler...keep up the OUTSTANDING WORK!

I agree, the pendraken  ratmen are definitly one of my favourite range, no matter the scale. They are really full of personality.

Hi

Thanks, um not too pleased about what you said about basing as I have a load o 6mm to base!

Perhsp I'll have a crack at 10mm painting after all, though the results will be limited...

Thanks

You could probably save time on basing using some kind of modelling flock, or turf/gravel directly of the correct color. I choosed to apply some kind of paste (pva glue + purmice stone powder), add some rocks (cat litter) so I had to glue it, paint it, then paint the rocks, then paint the bases borders in black, then varnish, then add some bushes  lol

It all depands on how you want to do the bases.

Here's the current progress, months after  lol

I finished the cavalry. Here's some bad night pics, especially on the red part wich appear very bright. We barely can see the grey hair on the horses, etc...

Anyway, I just glued them on their final bases, and tommorow I'll add texture on them. I finally choosed to not paint the bits of skin remaining on the horses skeletons...I made some tries with paint and washes, I found the result messy and not really "readable" from a playing distance point of view (I'd say 50cms-100cms). But perhaps it's just me, if you succeeded to make some finer paint job, feel free to show them ;)

In the mean time, I prepared (not visible on pics) the archery, based on wood sticks for painting. Tommorow I'll also build the war chariots.

I think I'll finish this army in a couple of days. My objective is to complete the 3 armies before february.

I totally stole your idea of painting my terrain on Popsicle sticks.  I really like those undead horses.

Thanks,

Concerning the sticks, sadly it's not my idea lol  But yes it's usefull for painting small scale stuff.

I finished the archery, and applied texture on the bases. Since I had a lot of extra texture paste, I applied it on the chariots bases too, even if the paint job is under progress.
