I started painting the Unity Marine Corp troopers - I got a little too close with the lamp when taking the photos and 'bleached' out the highlights on the helmets but I think they'll paint up nicely.

Very nice - I've been keeping an eye on these for a while, as I'll be picking them up when they come out on the retail side of the site ( I won't do KS). I've been searching for suited human soldiers for a while, and there is surprisingly little choice (when you take a number of duffs out of the equation).  Along with all other sane people I do like the look of Pig Iron but I have an innate preference for plastic and resin...

The heads look a little large, though?

I thought larger heads/hands are par for the course for minis, but you're right - those photos make it obvious.

Still looking good tho.

IMO Anvil Industries also aim for the GW market, therefore the 40Kish head size!

Which is why I personally am not superkeen... the other reason is specifically that they are "real resin instead of restic crap", even tho AI looks to have designed them pretty well to fit the fact.

A gaming buddy used me as pledging proxy tho so I think I should be a parcel of these soonish.

I'm not a fan of 'Heroic' proportions such as we find in 40k and a lot of companies have moved away from this style to more realistic proportions but the AI troopers have the look of 'hard' sci-fi that really appeals to me - the heads are a little large but that's ok all things considered (not so obvious on the fully masked troopers).

Hey Everyone,

Thanks very much for the discussion and comments! I do try to find and read any forum threads.

Physical sculpts certainly would have helped get more backers, there was certainly a huge boost in support when I posted a video of the prototypes with a couple of days to go.

For the launch of the full game I will be producing at the least a physical prototype, if not completed example sculpt, for each squad or unit offering. We learned a lot of lessons from the first KS to carry on with us.

@mcfonz and others on the topic of scaling -

I did give this some careful consideration. The heads and guns and some other parts are heroic scaled, but a lot less so than some plastic kits. I was aiming for the scale of Forge World Imperial guard miniatures which I think gets the balance just right.
Larger details make painting a lot easier and makes the models look better from a distance on the table top. With potentially thin parts like gun barrels and anything which sticks out, there is the durability of the model to consider also.
Matching the scale slightly toward the most popular kits also makes it more likely people will purchase the kits for use in other systems, which for a very small company like ours is an important consideration. So thats some of my reasoning behind the scale.

@Dwartist - Thanks for the photos, I'm really looking forward to seeing the completed figures and your photography is excellent also!  Could you send me an email? I've a few questions and not sure where best to contact you - info@anvilindustry.co.uk

Cheers,

Joel
