« on: October 11, 2013, 06:26:20 PM »
Hi,
Can anyone tell me if the Blue Moon 28mm Armed Sailors : http://www.bluemoonmanufacturing.com/lg_product.php?product=PC-10
are suitably dressed and of the right period to be used as British Sailors for a small skirmish force for VBCW  please ?

Thanks

Basic uniform is ok, but they should be wearing webbing and gaiters for land operations and the main weapon issued should be the rifle. A better option would be these WW1 figures (although wearing obsolete webbing for the 1930s it would probably still have been around in armouries):

Thanks Bullshott,

Mmmmmm I can see how the Pheonix miniatures might fit better in a VBCW setting and how the Blue Moon figs are more suited to Pulp perhaps.

The RN entered WW2 still using 1908 pattern webbing, so these are ideal. Likewise they were still using the Lewis Gun too, so if one of those was to be added to the series, it would be perfect. If anything is outdated at all it's their moustaches.

I used these way back, nice figures too.

Landing Party from HMS Mashona, a destroyer under outfitting when hostilities broke out, these are the crew that remained loyal to the King and have acted as a force of shock troops for the Expeditionary force and a backbone for the militia.

Ahhh Lowtardog, now your talking ! Those are what I should be using and very nicely painted they are.
Does anyone carry regiment games in the UK ? (I'm quite taken by their Cold War range as well)
Cheers for that.

These Blue Moon figures are nice but not good for regular navy.  They would  be a nice addition to a Merchant Marine group with Brigade Games and Pulp Figures sailors. You would not want more than one set, anyway, as I wonder how many  Captain Josiahs you would want:)    I have just about every other sailor set made, so thanks for the reference to these.  The 1st Corps, Pulp and Regiment Games navy figures are all very good for regular RN units. 1st Corps have only a couple of poses.  Regiment Games offers excellent and varied poses.   I converted the  bren guns to lewis.  Otherwise excellent figs, based on landing unit from early war.  Pulp Figures british sailors come in a deck crew and landing party.  I was just about to order more of the landing party to fill out an Albertine naval contingent.
I am interested in land warfare throughout history and beyond, except the Seven Years War, in Europe.
