Pulp Alley's Perilous Island, Chapter 7 -- BLOOD SACRIFICE
« on: October 12, 2013, 08:11:43 PM »
This is scenario #7 in our Pulp Alley Perilous Island Campaign –

The bellowing cry of a strange beast echoes through the jungle canopy, reverberating off the leaves and through your ribs as if the beast were within your tent. A distant scream draws you to your feet. Was that Lady Elaine or someone else in distress?
The prints of bare feet about the camp indicate the local Natives are involved. The beastly cry, this time much closer, is answered again by a blood chilling scream.

Duncan (major plot point), a member of the Darrow expedition, is in danger! He is about to be sacrificed to the great native gods by way of fire. Witchdoctor Shagunja (plot point) believes she must do this to attain greater powers. Giant blood ticks which live off of Mangled Corpses (plot point) have found a home in the nearby cliff-side. Glowing Rocks (plot point) and Strange Artifacts (plot point) litter the jungle floor.

Hook emerges near the cliff, his crew spreading out near him.

Pulp Girl comes from the jungle brush, silently planning to stop Shagunja before rescuing Duncan.

Mike charges Charlie and they clash in a violent brawl. They are both knocked out.

Kisa inspects the Strange Artifact and unlocks its hidden secrets.

Bowler charges red-capped Jason, seeking revenge for his fallen comrade. Jason aims to shoot as he charges. “Uh oh, out of ammo.”

Lex aims at Mak, but Mak is able to evade.

Pulp Girl goes up to Shagunja but is injured by her body guards.

Mak and Naga get in position to free the captive while Badonka slowly approaches.

Hook and Kairi climb the cliff and encounter blood ticks gather around a Mangled Corpse.

They walk up cautiously towards the remains, the ticks more interested in eating than them.

Lilith attempts to free Duncan and a burst of fire is created from Shagunja’s evil witchdoctor magic, causing her to go down and out. Mak and Naga are blinded by the sudden flash.

Mak, having been injured by the burst, is dazed while Badonka frees the captive right from under his nose.

Jason knocks out Bowler with the butt of his rifle.

Pulp Girl manages to chase off Shagunja and her guards, stopping the savage native ritual.

Axel discovers the glowing rock and stares at it dumbly, unable to pick it up. “Ooo shiny…” (Apparently Josh forgot that this Ally is “Mindless” and could not roll any Cunning or Finesse dice.)

Badonka retreats, Jason giving her cover as Naga chases after.

Naga is taken out by Kisa.

Badonka retreats further, being protected by Kisa and Jason. Mak knocks Jason down.

Kisa then charges Mak, leaving an opening for Pulp Girl to shoot Badonka.

Badonka gets away safely with Kisa and Jason close behind her.

You learn from a friendly native that this is not Shagunja’s first attempt at sacrificing outsiders. He describes a group of outsiders, led by a man matching Lord Donovan Darrow’s description. The Expedition traded for supplies from the old kindly witchdoctor before continuing further into the interior of the island...

We all had a lot of fun playing this scenario. Mikaila and I duked it out over the Lost Page while Josh just tried to stay out of firing range. Lol Mikaila and Josh both have two Lost Pages now and I don’t have any.

Don’t miss the next spine chilling chapter of Perilous Island – Jungle Trail!

That fantastic table, yet again! I want to try and make a couple of those super-high cliffs you have, except the icy winter version. Also, where are the ticks from?

Lovely set up. I like the earth tones on the table and the jungle sections a lot.

Marvelous stuff!  :-* Great terrain. I'm looking forward to the next installment.

Just as an observer, it's quite fun watching these stories play out. A couple fun things that I thought were cool in this game...

Badonka started the scenario "in hiding" and managed to move all the way to the captive before anyone spotted her. Black magic no doubt! She snuck in and stole the Lost Page right under Mak and Tuppy's nose!...

Once she completed the plot point, her luck just about ran out. Drawn out of hiding, just about anyone that could attack her did so. Badonka's colleagues did a good job trying to cover her escape, but she took hits from several characters and was soon down to a d6 Health...

Badonka failed three recovery checks in a row, and was still at a d6 Health by the time Pulp Girl finally ran her down and opened fire! When you're 1 injury away from dropping the major plot point, you don't want to see Pulp Girl coming at you with guns blazing!

Pulp Girl threw her fistfull of dice (7d8) and only rolled 3 successes. Badonka was able to cancel 2 successes with her dodge, but still suffered 1 hit.

So there they were once again. The victory of the scenario came down to one last d6 roll. Badonka passed her Health check and held on to the Lost Page as she scampered off and disappeared in the jungle...

Great fun!   lol lol lol

We got those ticks secondhand, and I'm not sure who makes them.

Oh! Some BIG ice/snow hills would be awesome.
