Fortified farmhouse
« on: October 20, 2013, 01:04:52 AM »
Am building a fortified farmhouse for my WotR board.  This will be part of the village but isn't the manor, more the home of a wealthier resident.  The village's other houses are wattle and daub with thatched roofs whereas this one will be flint and mortar with a tiled roof.  I do plan a more substantive manor house at some future point  - so maybe this is the original manor house that has been sold to someone with some money.

I'm basing the main house on this image, with stone steps leading up to the first floor main entrance, plus a gated perimeter wall and a stable block.

The roofs will be removable, with first floors to go into both buildings.

There will be a small moat to the three external walls of the house.

I plan to make sections of the perimeter wall removable, to show the effect of in-game artillery damage.

I've not made my mind up how tall the wall should be.  Maybe 5 ft or 6 ft with a raised step on the inside?!

Awesome sauce.

Nicholas, have you been hanging with the yoof again?  ;)

Looking forward to seeing this come together Steve. You've certainly set yourself a challenging timetable of new goodies for BLAM  :o

Not so much "hang out with" as "be hung over by".....

Lovely! A near-relative of a Borders bastle house. I'll follow this with interest!

 :D

Progress today in the form of crappy iphone pictures...

Have added
- the steps up to the house door
- the first floors to the buildings
- the end walls to the buildings
- the perimeter wall
- the firing step

I also blanked off the various door and window apertures ready for window framing - for this project I am not fitting out the insides - and added a piece of card to the bottom of the Mdf. This card has been hardened off with superglue and I'll use epoxy filler for the slope down to the baseboard.

Looks as though you are going to have a very nice building once it is finished. With the news that the Graven reivers range is now available and you talking of doing the finish similar to the photo in grey flint makes me think that would make a fine fortified house for the Scottish marches.

Excellent work SI - as others have noted, it's pretty close to a Borders bastle house too.
