Rules suggestions please.
« on: October 22, 2013, 04:05:04 PM »
Hello folks. I'm looking for a rule set to interest me. Something generically sci fi, skirmish based ( 5-15 figs) with campaign potential. The development of your characters is a must. A bit like Mordheim ( in SPAAAAAAAAACE!) but not necromunda ( or anything GW).
I haven't a clue what sci fi rules are out there so some pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.

"The sword sung on the barren heath,
The sickle in the fruitful field;
The sword he sung a song of death,
But could not make the sickle yield."

Mordheim in space, generic, 2-15 figs, campaign, experience and character design rules -> AE Bounty. Simple and fast game with nice morale and suppression rules. If you can find the printed book, it's a very good deal.

There was a rather closely related thread hereabouts recently:
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=58310.0

It didn't focus on campaign system specifically tho but I would say there are significant similarities otherwise. You might want to check out some of the games mentioned in that thread for campaign potential.

I think our Pulp Alley game checks all your boxes, and we're seeing more players using it for sci-fi gaming.

You can download a free version from Wargame Vault -- http://www.wargamevault.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=5628

It's not the full version, but it's enough to learn the mechanics of play.

PM me if you have any questions.

Cheers for the reply fellas.

@Pentato. I picked up the rule book on Amazon last night. Cheers for the pointer.

@tnjrp. That thread is a mine of good suggestions. Many thanks.

@mr Phipps. Thanks for the suggestion. I shall have a peek at the rules, they are certainly getting some good press so sounds promising.

The Judge Dredd rules from Mongoose/Warlord are worth checking out.

warpath v.2

Rules are free on the mantic site with army lists ,it can be played with about 15 models ,and has alot of campaign potential.

(or deadzone when it comes out ,but the rules are avaliable online)
