Chaco War display
« on: October 20, 2013, 04:17:23 PM »
We, the South East Scotland Wargames Club put on a Chaco War display at the SKELP Wargames show in Forfar yesterday.  We had previously tried it out to see if the game balance was ok - explaining why some of the photos look as though the games were being played on different tables.  Also having removed some of the defences after the practice game to try to give them a reddish wash to match the mat, I then forgot to take them to the show - I blame my advancing age!

The scenario involved a Bolivian transport column trying to reach an isolated fortin which the Paraguayans have under siege.  The column was supported by a Vickers tank and a Carden-Lloyd tankette.

The Paraguayans were successful on both occasions, rather more so yesterday as the relief column was completely wiped out and the fortin stormed.  Highlight of the Bolivian day was the successful air-dropping of ice-blocks to replenish their water supply.

We used Bolt Action rules which worked very well.  Most of the figures are from Scheltrum and the tanks are from Warlord.

You might be interested to know that the large range of Scheltrum vehicles will shortly be available from Scarab.

Great photos! I've always been a sucker for the Chaco War, so it's great to see these.

Looks great - I have long had a fascination with the Chaco War  and would love to game it some day. Couldn't see the figures on the Scheltrum website - are they a special commission?

Excellent, but I hope one of my fellow gamers up here doesn't see this as it might give him ideas on a project we have been thinking about for a few years.

Huascar - No, they are not on his site yet but they should be.  There is a command pack including LMGs and packs of rifle and SMG armed infantry for both sides + HMG and Mortar for both sides.  If you contact Sholto at the address on his site I'm sure he would send you a printed catalogue.

draxx66 - Hope all well in the frozen northern islands.  Yes Mike is almost as fond of obscure wars as I am.

Thanks for sharing Sakura

A conflict between rival oil companies Royal Dutch Shell and Standard Oil is a theme we’ve used and will no doubt stand the test of time as a basis for scenarios

Very inspirational it has certainly given me a thirst for more

Great game.  This is a war I know zero about, but looks interesting.   :)
