French weapons from 1830-1847
« on: October 26, 2013, 08:21:12 AM »
Hi guys,  I am doing some research about the French invasion of Algeria in 1830.  Specifically I am looking for the small arms involved primarily on the French side, but also on the Algerian side.  Does anyone have any leads I might run down?

Thanks Tegom, that is a good overview.  I am specifically looking for what rifles were used by the infantry and cavalry.

so, my french foreign legion book says flintlock muskets and percussion muskets after 1842
it would appear that the old fusil/mousquet Charleville modele 1777 and variants were still used until 1838, with an improved version from 1822. This is very plausible since this musket was the firearm produced in the largest numbers ever and also copied. There must have been many around for a long time.
in 1838 chasseurs a pied got Delvigne rifles

Sorry, but I can't help more
