Phreedh's Heroquest
« on: October 31, 2013, 10:21:14 AM »
Been a while since I posted anything painted here. Have been sort of away from the hobby during the summer and fall. A while ago, I had some friends over for an evening of Heroquesting though. Only had two zombies properly painted, the remaining models were either unpainted or poorly painted ages ago. Decided to get a full set painted up quickly, using already painted proxies for the skeletons, orcs, goblins and characters.

Long term goal is to get a base set and the two expansions released in Swedish painted up.

First up, four chaos warriors. The models are not the ones included with Heroquest originally, but the 90s single pose regiment ones. As I was under time pressure I opted to use these instead (they required less prep work). I'll replace them as the final four of the base set. In the interest of rapid completion, they were base coated black and then drybrushed with Tin Bitz, Boltgun Metal and Mitrhil Silver as well as washed with black and brown washes.

Next, I did two mummies. These were done really fast. Primed white, base coated in Bleached Bone, drubrushed with Skull White and then just washed with Devlan Mud. Four more to do once they're out of the stripping jar.

Here's a new photo of the two zombies I had previously painted.

So, that's it for now. More plastic to follow next month - the fimir are half base coated and the gargoyle almost done.

Looking good so far!
Was the inverted colours on the zombies an intentioanlmhomage to the golden days of citadel btw?

Great work, solid all round :)

I demand Fimir!

I will also enjoy hearing about your woes as you try to make the Barbarian (whose chin blends into his right forearm over about 8mm of red plastic) look cool ;)

More!

Truly a successful strike for speed painting. The look quite brilliant.

Good to have you, or own vintage expert collector, back, by the way.

Aw, you guys - making and old fellow blush. =D Thanks!

Have fun! Cheetor was kind enough to remind me (after I had played) that the rules differ slightly from the US and EU versions. Most importantly, the monsters have hit points in the US version. Check out this thread on BGG:

Nope, it was an unintentionanlmhomage. :) I did them for an LPL6 entry back in the days and figured it was dull to have them in uniform but at the same time I was lazy and didn't feel like using several different colours for the clothing. I often use that trick to make identical sculpts slightly differnt from each other.

I demand Fimir!

Fimir are next, so you'll get what you're asking for. =)

I don't remember him being that bad, but the old plastics do have a few interesting "ledges" like that.

Truly a successful strike for speed painting. The look quite brilliant.
Thanks! =) I was well chuffed, especially with the mummies. They took roughly no time at all to paint and still look decent! I hope to spend a little more time on the Fimir, they're among my favourite miniatures of all time - for nostalgic reasons. I just think they look hella cool.

Once I have the base set finished to a certain extent, I'll try to put together a Song of Blades & Heroes or CROM! scenario where the evil sorcerer + minions fights the heroes + hirelings in open ground. Hell, there's stuff in the box for a three way battle with orcs and goblins on one side, heroes + hirelings on one side and sorcerer + chaos warriors, undead and fimir on one side.

Just wish I had a few of the henchmen models supplied in Wizards of Morcar.

BTW, a rather sizeable shout-out must go to Bezzo who have helped re-populate my dungeons with a rather large haul of HQ minis he shipped me for free! Amongst them, the mummies above. It's not impossible the Chaos Warriors came from Thantsants, equally gratis. Top blokes!

Your OUTSTANDING brushwork transformed some less-than-wonderful minis into some BEAUTIES! GREAT WORK!
Having never played Hero Quest, I've been spared another trip down Memory Lane...in my case it goes through a slum.

Mattias, I think that I have 12 of those from the Heroquest Advanced Quest box at home.

I will check later and get back to you.

Great brushwork... Applause.  One question.  Why round bases and not rectangular?
Smile!  It's not that bad!
