Khurasan releases 15mm PHALANX heavy gunship
« on: October 31, 2013, 04:48:04 PM »
We are very pleased to release our latest products for our 15mm Federal Army/Navy range, the Phalanx Heavy Gunship, in two variants.

This craft has been in service for some time, formerly using ducted fan drive, but it has recently been upgraded with anti-grav VTOL drive, making it quieter and much faster.

The Phalanx is armed with up to 12 heavy anti-material seeker missiles, two DP pulse lasers, and four micro-missile boxes, making it a veritable flying battleship.  To add even more firepower when on patrol, or for policing or low intensity conflict when light anti-personnel firepower might be more appropriate, the side panels of the passenger compartment can be removed so that door gunners may man either rotary cannons or medium pulsers.  In this configuration the craft is called the Phalanx-A -- this kit is actually available in two variants, either for the Federal Army (with the appropriate door gunners) ...

... or Federal Navy, meaning the door gunners are the elite SPAR special ops troops in their distinctive battle gear (SPAR team models will be released shortly):

Both Phalanx-As, Army and Navy, come with two each of the door gunners, leaving you with two gunners who can either be swapped using magnets, or added to other models to bolster their firepower!

When the Phalanx has its side panels installed it may carry up to eight passengers directly into combat (as is a common insertion method for SPAR teams).  This configuration is the Phalanx-B:

All three variants are available now.  The Phalanx As were painted by dwartist and the Phalanx-Bs by Tim Rich -- thanks mates!

(By the way, the ducted fan version mentioned in the description above will also be made available, early next year.)

Very slick!  I'll wait for the version with the ducted fans but this version is still very nice.   :)

Both equally superb -- dwartist was left with the somewhat less glamourous overall green but really brought that to life.

Had it been in 28 mm...  ::)

Think it would be extremely expensive in 28mm though -- quite large.  How game are you chaps for that?

It's a shame that Kickstarter has been converted into a method to sell mass numbers of models at a discount, because otherwise I might kickstart something like this.  The expectation now though is that you'll get tons of things cheap so I doubt I'd get many pledges for a simple "fund this expensive thing" kickstarter.

Even releasing a small set of 15mm models carries the very real risk that you are simply flushing $1,000 or more down the toilet -- a 28mm VTOL really just greatly magnifies that risk!  So kickstarter would be a great way to gauge interest....

You're probably right.

Seeing the amounts of money GW players for instance throw at single models these days, I do think some gamers would be willing to cough up the money, but if you'd make a profit, or even break even, I can't tell.

That's true but on the other hand they have a whole system with rules and army lists and have conditioned people to expect to pay premium prices for models.

That said, I was also concerned about the price of the 28mm Caiman and they flew off the shelves!  :-)

Can you drop it beside a 28mm figure for us?  I'd be tempted to use it as a one man fighter and close the hatches...looks sexy.

This looks great. Even if all the weapons on it are a bit OTT.
