Yowsa! Those are 10mm?? I know folks who can't paint 28mm that well. This looks like a fun project. I like that stable of rules, so it should definitely work for you what you have in mind.

Excellent stuff Cpt Blood!

Can't believe its 12 years since I last saw these :(

Do you recall where the chap carrying the rum / powder barrel is from - I thought I knew the Pendraken ranges quite well, but don't recognise this chap.

There are some very pirate like canon in one of the SYW ranges if you need something a bit different.

They are fantastic all of them :-*, unfortunately it's now got me thinking about wargaming Gulliver's travels ;D

Me too the painted 28s fit in strangely well.

Sadly that also includes me, still never mind, it's the thought that counts  ;) lol

Thanks Fred. Yes, I’ve ordered some of the 9lb ‘fortress cannon’, which do look like ship’s guns.

The fellow carrying the cask is from the League of Augsburg ‘artillery crew firing’ pack.

Oh my god!

At that size I can hardly see them….your paintwork is better on these than many peoples 28mm!   Insane…and brilliant!

Thanks - now had a look and seen I've painted him at least 4 times! Perhaps it was 12 years ago...

Whoa-ho!  Or, yo-ho.  Nice.   ;)

Now all you need is a proper sailing ship to move along!   lol

Seriously, N scale buildings and a ship (if you can find one) will be a great (if expensive!) source for add-ons.
But you can stick with Pendraken for critters.  1:200 or even 1:220 might also work for a ship(s).

Me?  A similar long time since my 2012 massive pirate games in 15 mm - but I'm contemplating pulling the best and 'all unique' figures and basing them individually on round metal bases (from Total Element).  That will still yield A LOT of piratical folk.

Hey, race you to the 'finish line'!  (You'll probably win - and your paint jobs will run speedier circles around mine.)

Shall watch your progress.

Wow, I saw these and thought that Pendraken did a more extensive pirate range than I remember, and then it gradually dawned on me that many of these figures seem familiar.
Clever proxying and awesome painting.

Cracking if somewhat tardy progress Richard!  :D  ;)

And talking of tardy......

The guns were modelled (12 years ago!) by Silent Invader. I hope and believe he has some more for me! ;)

Having lost them, found them forgotten to send them, lost them, found them etc numerous times over the years, I've now found them again!!!!
My LAF Gallery is HERE
Minis (foot & mounted) finished in 2025 = 44

Pirates need boats, obviously, so I've invested in a small fleet of 3D printed ones.

The quality isn't bad provided you don't look too closely, and to be honest, at £6 or £8 for a pair, they're ridiculously cheap. Each boat comes with 8 oars.

Unfortunately, the version scaled for 10mm is just too small. It would probably be alright for several unbased 10mm figures crowded aboard as a vignette. But for practical gaming purposes, once the figures are based, you can only fit a couple of the singly based figures aboard, and none of those based in twos or threes :(

So these rowing boats will be relegated to set dressing / scenic embellishment as one or two man dinghies.

The version of the longboat scaled for 15mm however, is just about perfect.
Unsurprising really, because (in the same way that most '28mm' figures are actually about 35mm tall, and most '15mm' are actually around 18mm - 19mm), most of the Pendraken 10mm figures are actually around 12mm-13mm high. (Except, weirdly, the pack of actual pirates, which are tiny - truly 10mm to the top of the head. I guess it's difficult when working in such a small scale, but there's a quite noticeable degree of variation in size across the different Pendraken ranges).

In any event, the 15mm scaled longboat can comfortably accommodate a payload / crew of 9 multiply based figures. And looks much more in scale, especially with the 10mm scale oars in position (the 15mm scale oars look way too big against the figures).

Unfortunately those 10mm printed oars are incredibly fine and fragile. I don't think they'd last more than one game.

However, I do want the longboats to have oars in the water, as in games they're usually going to be portrayed as 'under way'.

So I've fitted 0.5mm piano wire oars instead (you can't see the oar blades because obviously they're in the water! ;))

Note to self... On the rest of them, I will lightly sand down the topmost surface of the gunwales, as drybrushing unfortunately highlights the ripples of 3D printed material.

Not really visible from more than a few inches away, but irritating... :-[

I've also ordered a selection of 3D printed sloops, ketches and skiffs (in 15mm), so we'll see how those fit in...

The boats are great - even if they are technically over scale they work really well with the based figures.

Do you have a link to them?

They're by Printable Scenery. A number of vendors of 3D printed models carry them. I got these ones from Highlands3DPrints.

Thanks Randy.
Don’t worry, I’m not going to start doing 10mm Bloody Miniatures.  Although…  o_o lol
