Designing a Card Building for Robotech.
« on: November 12, 2013, 04:08:50 AM »
I've been messing around with a simple card building to use with the upcoming Robotech game and would like some feedback on it. Please download the building image on my blog, build it, and let me know of any problems you have with it. Thanks for your input!

I have not had the opportunity to make up your model, but i can assure you the form and the colours are very "Robotechy". Do you plan making an entire city?

Thank you, I'm glad you approve.

I would really like to but I haven't had a good amount of time to work on them.If you do build the building I've posted please let me know what you think. If I do another building it will probably be a Chinese restaurant.  ;)

I'm not overly familiar with the style of building in robotech, (does it really have one?) But to me your building looks good, however it could do with some more windows. Especial on the upper sides of that hexagon piece, I just can't see any semi-modern building NOT having windows there, unless its reinforced against attack or some such but then the other windows don't really make sense.  o_o

I based it on this screengrab from Macross. Macross City is an odd combination of these types of "sci-fi" looking buildings and more typical, Japanese buildings.

Mine is not a perfect translation of the building from this image and I might re-visit it at some point.

huh, shows what I know  lol, while I do feel the hexagonal part on your version is slightly to large and thus somewhat breaks the balance, I Can not deny that for a "simple card building" That is a darn good adaption and better then anything I have ever created in paper.

You are right, the hexagon is a bit oversized compared to the one on the film, but nevertheless seems great. Which program did you use to produce this building?

Illustrator for the line-work and Photoshop for the coloring.

I use Adobe Illustrator myself, but don't have any experience with Photosop. Would you like me to redo the building's geometry? We could even work paired (one doing the geometry, the other one colouring with PS) if you would like to try more buildings  ;)
