Sourcing a couple of figures for possible leagues...
« on: November 12, 2013, 06:54:53 PM »
Still playing with various ideas for now. I was wondering about sources for two figures:

1) A big hulking butler or valet. Definitely a larger figure, like 35-40mm so he towers over the other minis (not more than 40 though). Think Lurch, from the Addams family.

2) An early 20th century nerd. He can't look like a high-school kid. More the nervous type in a suit.

Ideas? Especially for the first one. We have one league idea that will be short on muscle without a type like that.

How about the Heroclix Solomon Grundy? I'm just repainting one now for a league of big-guy bruisers!

@ Snapcase: I need him to actually look a little dignified. I can convert to some extent, but that fellow just looks like a monster. Something like this would be ideal:

Maybe there's an EotD Gothic Horror type figure that would work?

@ pistolpete: I looked at the reaper nerds, but they're a bit too modern. Something like Pulp Girl's Professor Smith character would be very close (a set of Blue Moon figures here: http://www.bluemoonmanufacturing.com/view_product.php?product=PC-13), but if he could be less dignified and more hopeless (like the nerd in the Reaper high school kids pack) that would be better. I'm thinking I'll just use that figure pack if I can't find something more suitable/better quality.

Of the two, I think the butler is much more pressing.

Here's a decent butler. Doesn't really have the height you are looking for, but you could maybe add a few mm's...

How about this chap from em4.
The gent at the bottom with the glasses and briefcase ( I really like him)

The sickle in the fruitful field;
The sword he sung a song of death,
But could not make the sickle yield."

Hm! That's a good possibility too for the nerd. Less "awkward" and more "twitchy and paranoid", but that's still interesting.

I may have found my butler: http://wyrd-games.net/shop/Mr.-Graves.html

A little more thuggish and less dignified in pose, but the fine clothes will help offset that.

Would either of these Ogre Bruisers fit the bill?

http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/ogre-bruiser-p-900.html

They are from Micro Art Studios "Wolsung" Miniatures game.

I also considered them, as a matter of fact. Don't know why they had to give the first one such a modern suit, with sunglasses and a modern golf club even. There's nothing about him that makes him look Victorian, let alone pre-WWII. He looks straight out of a cyberpunk game.
