"British Flesh" on Perry 8th Army
« on: November 13, 2013, 04:47:15 AM »
Started assembling some of the Perry 8th Army plastics,

And I began to wonder, the flesh tones shouldn't be light/ruddy English, as they've been in the sun for a while.

But I don't want the figures looking like my Mexican Federales.

Any suggestions?

ye oldy worldy white brits tend to go pretty red for awhile before taking on a brown hue.

So, reddish colouration would suit I guess, though they would look like they've been drinking a bit too much ale as well.

Win win then!  ;)

I use colors like the old Ral Partha ruddy flesh. And pinkish flesh colors like light rose or peach shades, even some light salmons.

From my recent article in Wargames Soldiers and Strategy magazine...

'My second decision was to shoot for a darker skin tone than usual. Troops in the desert would have rapidly acquired a tan - or sunburn. I started with a base coat of almost neat Vallejo Red Leather cut with a drop of Vallejo Dark Flesh. I gradually added more Dark Flesh to the mix for highlights, and then the merest touch of white into this for the topmost highlights – cheekbones, chin, ears, tip of the nose, and so on'.

Hope that helps  :)

I think that "varying" the look between soldiers with some taking more pains to keep there heads in the shade would give a great look. Officers being on the whole less tanned than the lower ranks as they would be doing less manual labor out "in the midday sun". Should help avoid the federale  look, but perhaps a simple drop mold is called for.  lol
