uniform quiery
« on: 14 November 2013, 05:15:28 PM »
hi
i'm painting some figures as militia, circa 1810, who would be garrisoned in the Home Counties or perhaps Yorkshire.
My question is what sort of uniform would these reserves have? Would it be much different from troops in the field?  And what colours would they be?
This isn't a period i've had anything to do with before so any help is appreciated.
many thanks

The yeomanry had no prescribed uniforms; the uniforms were bought by the various lords lieutenant so pretty much anything would probably go; You could probably presume something in the same cut and colours as the regular army or a military blue would also work. You could go quite close to the regulars but add a variation (red coats, black trousers/red stripe is one variant I've seen a print of).
