Do you varnish your LBM transfers?
« on: November 15, 2013, 08:07:38 AM »
Well, this is the first time I'm using LBM transfers (they are wonderful btw). And I'm wondering if I should varnish them or not. Afraid to screw it up now  ;D

Same question about their banners; and I was wondering why there is white around the bannerpole (in the midst of the two flagsides).

Yes yes yes.

The transfer itself is very delicate and vulnerable, so touch up any white areas showing round the edges with a dark shade and make sure you give it a layer of brush-on varnish before you spray varnish at the end.

I let the shield transfers set overnight then brush on a varnish the next day.  Keeps 'em safe. Never used his banners, so I can't comment there.

Yep. Let them dry (overnight), then a coat or two of gloss (Pledge or yacht varnish), then some Galleria matt to finish.
Measure with a micrometer, mark with chalk, cut with an axe, hammer to fit, paint to match!

Thanks. I'll go with a coat of gloss and a coat of matt varnish then! I Have a can of Testors but haven't tried it yet as I'm afraid of clouding because of bad weather conditions.

if you varnish (waterbased/acrylic) the shield before applying the transfer it will stick a lot better and be less prone to any air bubbles.

I varnished the shields some days ago, and while doing it read the instructions again. Turns out it says you should varnish them  lol
