Thanks guys. This kind of "helmet" is called happuri, it is more a part of a face mask (mempo) then a true helmet. Made both from leather and metal, I decided to paint mine as a bronze, but it would be probably more historically acurate to paint it as a steel. Anyway, it was quite popular protection of a head amongst poorer...
Two more miniatures to show, both are "proper" samurai this time:)

Thanks for the infomation about the happuri. Its always good to find out new things.

New model is painted well.however it doesn't look like its scabbard could actually fit his sword in it.

It is scabbard for katana, pommel of it is visible next to the waist area. He looks like he is holding the scabbard but it is just a perspective of the photo. Hand of the figure is closed into the fist actually.

Yep. I will paint just one bandai - my gaming group seems to lost interest in the game just after buying some miniatures. If we will play, I may paint one more bandai in the future. I will probably add some characters to this band though - ninja, wandering monk, etc. - just to add a little character to it.

recently, i bought a few Samurai-Minis myself*. Some Perry and  Legends of the 5 Rings as well ...

I am actually painting them now. At least the armory. So ... seeing these really-really nice minis (  :-* ! ), I would appreciate some hints and suggestions for the skins of mine. I usually use dwarf-flesh ... but that pinky-pale-skin version of caucasian whitebreads is not fitting for obvious reasons.
Any color-names and methods here? I'm a little lost ...

best wishes and thanks!

* dunno how it happened, I swear! There might be a connection to a Ronin game I watched ... it's all a bit misty and blurred in my mind.  o_o
best wishes

I can't give exact recipe for my skin as it was mixed on the spot for whole group. It is a blend of Elf Flesh with Vomit Brown, with some shading done with washes - from purple to brown.
The recipe from pdf file looks fine to me.

Your group is fully concerned with Muskets & Tomahawks :) We have to try Ronin in the near future for sure!
