Not strictly gaming....
« on: November 27, 2013, 08:55:56 AM »
But it will sure help me get in the mood for SASA and Age of Blood...   :D

My first homebrewed mead has stopped fermenting and can be tasted - I'm siphoning it into another container for clearing before it should be bottled and stored 1-2 years. If it survives that long...

No, I bought this honey - I do have plenty of space in my back garden (we have 4813 sq. meters of plot) for a handful of beehives, though, and I am contemplating the idea.

The stuff tastes fantastic, btw., and I have filled an old whisky bottle for tastings - I have some empty bottle contributors to invite for a taste before they can get a full bottle as thank you; the brew has to settle/clear for a month por so, so I should be bottling it around Christmas.

Ah, Niels, you will have to come back to BLAM some time, and bring your mead with you  ;)

(Are you going to drink it from the skulls of your enemies, or is that a different Scandanavian custom?  :))

Argonor, I've made mead before, and though it was nice, it was a bit, well, bland. I prefer fruit wines or sloe/damson gin :P

Go for the beehives though - now the neonics are gone maybe the bees will thrive!

Did you leave it 1-2 years on the bottles? The flavour should get much richer when stored.

But, actually, my brew tastes a bit like cream sherry already - I shall let SOME of it be stored, anyways  lol

I think that the Scandinavian custom regarding mead is to mix it with old-fashioned home-brewed beer/ale to sweeten the taste of the latter.

I don't have an alcometer to check, but it should hold 14-16% when made with normal baking geast, and is a bit strong to drink from large drinking horns without mixing it up. I would suggest lager if anyone is up to it  ;)

From a wine glass, on the other hand, it works just fine  :D

Argonor, it was a couple of years old when I drank it, left some longer and it didn't get any better :'(

I might have another go some time, but ginger wine is a lot quicker and easier!
