Chain of Command
« on: November 26, 2013, 11:06:52 AM »
So, should i bother investing in another WW2 skirmish game rulebook? I have Bolt Action and Disposable Heroes both of which are ... ok.

I hear good things about CoC though.

Thoughts gentlemen please

Yes go with Chain of Command.

It has some unique mechanics that really give a great tactical feel to the game. Check out the videos that are post on their site.

This is the only small unit game I have played that really makes it important to keep reserves off the table, and the Jump off Points really work as if it where hidden movement without keeping track of units on a map.

If you are looking for something that refelects the tactics of the period then this is for you.

Nope, morale chits are part of the Battlegroup family; BG Kursk, BG Overlord and BG Fall of The Reich. I really enjoy playing Battlegroup, and recommend it highly, but it's not exactly a skirmish game.

Our group has been playing a fair bit of Chain of Command, and it looks to become our skirmish set of choice.

We also come from a Disposable Heroes background and have found both BG and CoC to be well thought out and to give good solid games with just the right amount of abstraction where it counts. YMMV.
Television is rather a frightening business. But I get all the relaxation I want from my collection of model soldiers. P. Cushing

Thanks for that fellas.

I should qualify what a said about DH; i think that they're a good, fun, solid group of rules (my go to set for SCW) but, for me, they break down (sic) when vehicles are involved.

I'm going to order the CoC rules from NorthStar as i should see Nick on Thurs

Where would one buy a copy in the US?  Does TFL have a distributor in the US?

Can we keep this discussion from here to Chain of Command and its pros/cons. There are loads of "my favourite set of WW2 rules" threads out there.

Thanks

James, all the feedback I have heard about CoC gives me the impression that it knocks Bolt Action out of the ball park. If you haven't done already check this out, it will give you a flavour.
They will not force us,
They will stop degrading us,
They will not control us,
We will be victorious!!

<snip> a realistic feel of a WWII <snip>

I hope that is "war gamer" realistic and does not involve "live fire" realism...  lol   ;)

Gracias,

Glenn

We are planning a live fire option in the deluxe version.   ;)

Thanks for all for their kind words about the rules.  We have had great fun with them (just completed two fun games today with a couple of newbies) and it's nice to hear that others are enjoying them.

Rich
