Miniatures in Sports Games?

While checking out the Two Hour Wargame (THW) Forum/Blog/etc. discussion/reports {http://www.twohourwargames.com/index.html, http://site.twohourwargames.com/forum/index.php, http://2hourblog.blogspot.com/ } I found a lot of interest in "sports" games (THW doesn't consider their Chariot Racing, Gladiator (Historical, Fantasy, SF,) or Joust games as "sports" per se' although I think they could be considered that,) with (besides games in development) their "sports label on Soccer/Fútbol , horse racing, boxing and Qwik games.

How do you view 'sports' games that use miniatures (figures) for the game?   (I will exclude "electric football" games since I don't think those are very much like most "miniatures" games most people on this forum play.)

There are 'figures' for Soccer/Football/Baseball/Hockey from sources like "Kasey Kids"  http://www.kaskeykids.com/ and there are 'figures' for mixed martial arts (I saw some on Ebay) plus other 'figures' that I am not aware of at this time, like Basketball.  There are figures for fantasy and Science fiction games either 'unique' or based on 'real' sports games.

What makes a sports themed game using "miniatures" or "figures" a "miniatures game" in your mind?

Well, yes, you have some interesting ideas in that "arena" (couldn't resist.)

So do you consider games using miniatures as miniatures games on a sports theme?  Or do you consider them sports themed games that use miniatures?  Do you see a difference or is that just the semanticists trying to justify their work?   

I guess a related question (given that sports is an unconscious metaphor for "war by other means" such as the Olympics during the Cold War (hell, the way the PRC is pushing sports seems not unlike the USA and the USSR back in the 1950s through the 1970s actually,) is where are the lines between sports games that use "counters" or "tokens" instead of miniatures, miniatures games, sports games using miniatures, War games hat use "counters" or "tokens" instead of miniatures, and war games that use miniatures. 

I totally exempt games of any sort on video/computer because the media is really apples and oranges to the kind of thoughts that started me thinking on this.  YMMV.

Personally I dont really see a difference between sports games with miniatures or miniatures games that are sports themed, just seems like a different way to say the same thing.

The figures mentioned in a discussion were referenced to Ebay.  Sorry, right now (0512 hours on a Monday morning) I can't remember the specifics.  I will try and find out if there is a non-Ebay source...

I played for a few years modern version of classic US tabletop electric football game; Classic game but alive, with available minis, boards and accessories (like photo etched facemasks).

But due to the lack of players in France, I lost my interest into electric football gaming (really interesting once you get how to make your players to be strong, fast, etc... on the vibrating field, but really time consuming, especially if you want to play it solo) , and I just sculpt and paint football minis these days (and even not that much, frankly).

I can't wait to see THW new football game released to recycle all my football minis and play solitaire league with it.

Yes, the idea of an updated game for the CVL (Competitive Violence League) should play out well given THW's history of making good solo/coop as well as head-head games.
