Help with Colors for Baluchi Zombie Skin?
« on: December 04, 2013, 06:38:15 PM »
I am about to start on some of Josef's *incredible* Baluchi zombies.

Normal skin color is darker than what I am used to painting, so I need a new base-color sequence.

Also, they're undead, so there is some bone showing through, and I would like to get a good contrast between rotting, weather-beaten, dark skin, and those bones.

Anyone have an idea for this kind of coloring?  There are not many references on the 'net, though the two I have found look really good.  I'm just not sure which colors they are.

Any ideas?  Thanks.

I did a semi-decomposed head a while back and used a palette of grey for the basecoat, highlighting up through grey/fleshtone mixes to a final pale flesh highlight.

To differentiate them from "caucasian" zombies, you might consider working from a darker base. Pure brown will most likely be to vivid and thus "unrealistic", so I would suggest the following:

Base coat of a 60/40 mix of VMC Chocolate Brown and German Grey or Black Grey.

Highlight with a mix of 40/40/20 Chocolate Brown, Neutral or London Grey and German or Black Grey.

Add lighter coats with increasingly less Black Grey and maybe add in some Sunny Skin for more definition.

Finally, blend in and tone down the whole lot with a very, very thin wash of Sepia Ink and Dark Grey Wash.

Been mentioned many many times.

Zombie paint job threads do seem to have a habit of resurrecting from time to time... ;)

Check out my zed thread, plenty of paint options there. ;)

Huh. I wonder what that paint scheme would look like on the head on a miniature.

Dark scorched brown base coat and dwarf flesh seem to do it.  Not really undead but contrasts alright with the clothes and exposed skeleton.  Still working on a final highlight color, though.
