A note on scales for the old west - a few days ago I did a preliminary remodeling survey on an 1878 hotel. The doors of the rooms varied from 26 1/2" to 29" wide and 74 to 81" high - no two were the same. The front windows all matched pretty closely because they had been brought overland from Salt Lake, but the side windows were all different as well, having been built on site. Most of the doors and windows weren't square either, one side a half inch to an inch longer wasn't unusual.
That means just have fun and don't sweat the details, your model can't be worse than the prototypes.
