Roberto (was "Zoidberg") 16/06/15
« on: December 08, 2013, 08:10:40 PM »

I cant remember who made this figure (and the couple of associated not-Futurama figures that I bought at the same time) but I quickly painted up this guy over the weekend.  I plan to use Dr Zoidberg as a coach for my DreadBall Nameless team, as a substitute for the Judwan medic in Deadzone and as part of an Ordo Xenos Inquisitorial retinue.

The sculpt is quite basic, crude in places but it encouraged a certain cartoony approach to painting.  I reckon that the character is pretty much immediately recognisable and I hope to have a few laughs with it.

The associated blog post is HERE.

That's pure gold.  If you ever recall/rediscover who made that mini, I would love to know!

I think all of your proposed uses sound like great fun.

Yeah, Armorcast sounds right. I dont recall these figures being limited, but they may have been.  I have not-Zoidberg, not-Bender, not-Roberto, not-Robot Devil and not-Tranny Bot.  I dont know if they ever made the rest of the crew of the Planet Express, but I would like to assemble the full crew in miniature at some stage.  Reaper make a vaguely Leela looking figure, but it doesnt look quite right to me.

The Zoidberg is a bit of a crude sculpt, but fun all the same.  Roberto, Bender and Robot Devil are quite decent.  Tranny Bot looks quite dodgy in terms of sculpting.

Thanks for the feedback folks. Its a straightforward paint job (with a few more cock-ups than I thought now that I take another look), but I am swelling with patriotic mucus all the same ;)

Fair enough :)

I checked my Armorcast purchase history. I bought the lot last April. They were only available until a June cutoff date.  I could have sworn that I saw those figures for sale long before that though, a few years ago even [SHRUG].

Does anyone know if there were more characters available than "Satanbot", "Insane Bot", "Folder Bot", "Doc Lobster" and "Hooker Tranny Bot"?

Nice. Looks so cool beside the nameless team, they look all business and then he's so comic.

Thanks.  It looks a bit like Zoidberg won a bet (or that the Nameless lost one).
