This is a small project I'm working on - small in more than one way.

I wanted to build a 2' x 2' board which gives a high degree of flexibility of design, and ideally use with scales ranging from 6mm to 28mm, for a technological setting.  I had previously used floor tiles of sides of about 8" - these work very well, but are quite heavy. My proposed new solution was to use small squares of about 5cm side. The design is generic enough to permit the range of scales to be used, with a few of these having scale-specific features. Laid next to each other these would provide a corridor sort of scenery, albeit open plan in nature. I chose a re-use route for the squares, and found what I wanted thanks to the effects of caffeine.

Here is my single finished tile with a couple of curious 6mm scale models:

One of them explores further:

In case it's not obvious what the tile is, it's shown below with another 3 raw state tiles...

I have over forty of the coffee jar tops now, which must explain my insomnia.

Placed over a plain board (on which other features could be added as well) these could represent a series of walkways on which to stage battles. Such as the undersea tank war mentioned in another post....

Nice idea.

Wish I could put my beer bottle caps to similar use.... currently I use them as paint/wash pallets.
