« on: December 14, 2013, 08:40:51 PM »
Hello,
I've painted up some foundry 28mm downed german aircrew, and am now looking to create a crash landed german bomber, does anyone have any suggestions on type and scale (1/48 ??) that suits?
Thx rorio

Yeah get a 1/48 kit. There's not really much else out there!

Heinkel He111 looks like a great prospect for those. Revell makes a fair kit, I believe.

Good stuff. Go with a Heinkel, crashed in England during the Battle of Britain. Simple!

Don't Heinkels only have a crew of 5?

What gets a crew of 6?

I think the Ju-88 only had four, so what else?

Senior officer with special intelligence, who really shouldn't have been flying operationally? Can they evade capture?

Witch reminds me in Stalingrad the Rumanians took the machine guns from some of their aircraft and pressed them into service in the trenches, making it possible to resist many attacks.

They look like crew from two aircraft to me. The chap on the left looks different to the res, I'm no expert though.

You are correct! Maybe he's a 109 pilot, and the rest are He111 crew?

Blitzkreig Miniatures just announced they are going to do a range of 1/56 scale aircraft. Maybe they'll do a bomber? You can always ask them. The first one is a Stuka. Here's a link to their Facebook page with piccys...

there are lots of stories about bomber crews taking ground crew or friends along for a mollie , I did a write up about such a crew who are buried at Scamton on my blog          http://wargamesandwalking.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/wargraves-at-scampton.html

or include the spare crew man in a specific scenario as a scientist trying out new equipment etc .

There isn't really room for more than 4 in a Ju88 or Do217 but the He111 fuselage is more accommodating.  Alternatively, you could use a Ju52 that has been caught as dawn broke after dropping Abwher agents and Brandenburghers er nuns...
