Anyone sell oriental head sprues...?
« on: February 01, 2014, 03:44:52 PM »
I need some for some minions for my Spy-Fi project but cannot think of any that do not wear Japanese Army headgear of some description.

Any ideas?

The only ones I can think of off the top of my head ( ;D) are the Wargames Factory samurai and ashigaru box sets and the Perrys viewing set.

Actually, on second thoughts Bac Ninh figures have separate head sprues for their figures and one sprue is bare headed. Give Rokurota a pm here and see if he'll do you a couple of sprues  :)

I think that West Wind may produce some, too, although their hairstyles aren't very modern-looking.

(South) East Asian head sprues do represent a gap in the market, though, especially with respect to ancient times and tribal peoples.

Moreover, it would be nice if somebody were to produce sprues of helmeted heads for all of those bare-headed Chinese figures that were inspired by the Terracotta Army. Helmets have been found, albeit made of stone scales or lamellae, but it would seem likely that actual soldiers would have worn ones that were made of lacquered leather and/or of bronze.

They do....

Gives me options, although some of those faces are a little odd, to say the least.

The Crossover Ninjas have a bare headed option, and Crossover traditionally sell separate head sprues,  although I can't remember if this is one of them...

Yes, their sculptor would not really seem to have managed to capture Asian physiognomy. Still, some of the heads might do for the Planet of the Apes, instead!

You could use Insta-Mold and press a few from Copplestone sculpts. How many do you need?

I don't think the majority of the WGF heads are particularly Asian looking.
