what 28mm miniatures could i use for 12th century Wends?
« on: December 25, 2013, 09:47:31 AM »
At present developing a few 28mm skirmish forces i could use through the 12th Century  but they are all composed of miniatures to be used for games set in the British Isles or the First and Second Crusade but also looking for miniatures which could expand the scope of the period. In the last few weeks have been reading about Crusades in the North and would like to put together a small skirmish force to be used as Wends but would like them to look the part and not just use any generic Dark Age period miniatures as a friend suggested.

Any ideas what miniatures i could use for Wends to give the force an authentic look and feel would be great. Thank you for any help that can be provided

Hi dm,

Gripping beast do a couple of packs of Slavs as part of their Byzantine range or possibly look at the tribal warriors for the Teutonic/Rus range, they come with different shields to represent Prussia/Estonians and suchlike. Might be of some use.  :?

As a dane, I've often thought about giving the wendish a whirl myself a few times. I think you might do well to pick up a box of the gripping beast generic infantry, and then convert with parts of the viking/saxon plastics, and maybe throw in some of their loose prussian/baltic shields for good measure. Ray Earle is on the money with his comment on the Slav/Bayzantine as well.

Thank you lads :) 8) Had been looking at the generic GB plastic sprue this morning on the GB website and was coming to the same conclusion and will give it a go after the festive period is over.

Have a great Christmas and all the best for the New Year :)
