Since they aren't standard a tchanka or two would be a real nice custom built model and I would think the star of the army.

I'm currently making a WWI era Russian Torpedo Boat, after this perhaps a tchanka or two?
Chickens got livers? I'm gettin some!

I'm thinking the buckboard or doctor's buggy in OG's warpaint line might make a nice base. No pics online sadly, but at least I'd have the wheels!

This goes a long way to helping me start my Russian Civil War Armies.  Thank you for the information.

by the way, here a comparison Copplestone vs. Eureka. Eureka guys look like children... :?

Yes, I was rather disappointed with the Eureka tchanka. The cart is small but very nice. The figures are small and lumpy.

Red cavalry division (before 1926, similiar to the russian army of 1918) consisted of four cavalry regiments, one cavalry artillery battalion (18x76mm field guns and 12x122mm howitzers), one HMG squadron and other support units (7230 soldiers). A cavalry regiment consisted of four sabre squadrons (120 soldiers each, cossack squadrons (sotnya) had 100 soldiers, ), a HMG one (16 HMG's on tachankas) and an artilelry one (2 artillery batteries with 3x76mm field guns each). A squadron (sabre and HMG) consisted of four squads and a command unit.

On paper and in theory yes.....

For the RCW the cavalry Division would typically be of two brigades, each of two regiments, the regiments themselves of varying numbers of squadrons, nominally 4 plus a tachanka squadron in 1919 . Just as common to find regiments organised in 3 squadrons. Supporting arms were usually in short supply. More likely 1 -2 4 gun feld gun batteries, with one or none attached to each brigade. Howitzers would be a luxury rarely if ever seen.

I have a number of the Eureka tachankas and I'm quite happy with them. They just need a thicker base. the crew figures are a bit disappointing but if you have a Copplestone field gun, there's some spre seated crew that might do the trick.

Excellent tips on the tchankas.  I will have a look for Victorian riding carriages, etc......this hobby just gets stranger and stranger...... (one hour later)....can't find a suitable cart.  Any suggestions???

I would suggest looking in the several lines of Old Glory that have horse drawn wagons.  I got some from the Old Glory Napoleonic line that might work for you.  Also, the Old Glory ACW line has some wagons.  Haven't checked out Old Glory's western line for wagons or carts.

If something bigger is needed, then maybe Front Rank carts could be adapted, though early 18th Century is the style for those.

Must be some WW2 or Old West lines that might have carts for 28mm.

A combination of the learned Mark Plant and the denizens of the RCW Group, many of whom are very learned on this subject far more than I shall ever be. Mr Plant's Pygmy Wars site ( a must for RCW gamers) has some useful TO&Es. I'd love to say that I have a copy of the Soviet Encyclopdeia of the RCW but alas it's remained out of my reach.
