My Old West / VSF/ BoB Train
« on: January 01, 2014, 05:19:22 AM »
I spotted a fairly battered set of the Golden Creek railway set at my local Toys are We store. I think it must have been lost in their store room for a few years, as this set is no longer registered as stock they carry here.

I wanted the set mostly for the wheels and bogeys, so I could make some carriages for an Old West train robbery scenario.

However, I needed to modify the engine a bit so it sat a bit higher (to match the carriage) and also had room for the engineers, so I pulled it apart and removed the battery holder (easy) and motor, and cut away some un-necessary plastic.

I've sat it about a centimetre higher and made some flooring for the engineer.

I used 40K tank track guards to cover the gap, as well as a few extra lights and fittings at the front.

I decided I didn't like the flared chimney, so changed it

My work so far... I need some plasticard strips to finish the carriage details (and then another carriage!).

The carriage looks at little wide, but is as narrow as wargaming bases will allow. I use 20mm round bases, and the 65mm wide carriage has a 25mm wide passage, with 20mm wide seats (which bases fit between).

OK, I've made a few additions to the train since the last pic. Here is my Train so far (in various stages of painting). As well as the passenger carriage, there is now a small box car and a private passenger carriage. This is about the limit of my train, as any more carriages would be hard to fit a a standard table.

That looks excellent, although more generic than old west. Great job on it!

Thought I'd better add the link to the post which shows it in action.

Nice work, the scratch built carriage is vert nice, and the black undercoat helps bring it all together. TBH I was a bit worried with the steam train and the wheel guards but I think my fears are unfounded ;) sorry to doubt you freelancer ;) lol

Now slap on the paint and show us how awesome it is.

Cheers
Matt
