Battle for Osgiliath
« on: January 04, 2014, 09:46:13 PM »
dear all,
we had a great time yesterday during our Christmas Big Game. The topic, as you may expect, was a Middle Earth Battle.
We played an odl timer ruleset called "Chainmail", maybe some old fellows of my age know what I am talking about.
Here are some pictures, figure are from my friend GD'A.

You may find some more pictures here:
http://stefanov.no-ip.org/wiki/pages/W3z1i34/Osgiliath.html

If by any chance somebody has designed specific rules for Middle Earth in Chainmail, I would be happy to exchange ideas!
We have prepared some on teh spot, ehr on the battlefield yesterday, just before playing.

Cheers Stefano

Lovely collection and very impressive game.

Question: Have you tried the "War of the Ring" rules from GW? That size of game is what they were designed for, just wondering why no-one seems to play them.

Thank you for appreciating the game,

as I said all figures are coming from a single gamer, Giuseppe is just amazing! I am just refereeing.

I have never thoroughly tested GW rules. They generally are aimed to competition games, which I don't like. But I might be completely wrong and Middle Earth rules might be fine.
Nobody from my many fellow gamers suggested to use these rules in our game though... If you have any experience let me know!

cheers Stefano

Impressive sight. I love that last picture, all the orcs heading one way, with the warg riders running in the opposite direction.

You can browse the War of the Ring rules on scribd.com, it can be found under the documents section. I was looking at it just the other day. It's quite a nice set of rules, a cross between LotR strategy battle game and Warmaster style units. A good thing to look at even if it's just to get an idea on unit differences, or ideas for magic spells if you use them in your games.

Ciao!  ;)

Wow great looking game. Favorite picture is the charge of the wolfriders. What a great mix of figures! Some old Nick Lunds amoung them :) Were you using original pre-d&d Chainmail?
