Pendraken Painting Competition 2014!
« on: January 08, 2014, 03:33:01 AM »

Last year we had 195 top quality entries, and we're really looking forward to seeing what this year holds!  Hopefully, it will be even bigger and better, with more entries and more prizes!

As always, the competition will be running throughout February, with the closing deadline being at midnight on Fri 28th Feb.  That gives everyone loads of time to get their orders in and get their entries painted up!

The basic rules will be the same as last year, with the usual 7 categories, so there should be a suitable home for every entry!  As with last year, each entry is allowed 2 images, except for the 'Open Army!' category, which is allowed up to 5 images.

Categories:

Foot - Pre-20th C. - Min: 3 / Max: 16 figures on a single base, and pre-1900.
Foot - 20th C. - Min: 3 / Max: 16 figures on a single base/movement tray.
Mounted - Min: 3 / Max: 10 figures on a single base/movement tray.
Vehicle - Single vehicle on or off base.
Fantasy & Sci-Fi - Anything Fantasy or Sci-Fi oriented, maximum base/movement tray size of 60x60mm
Open - Single Base - Anything which doesn't fit into the other categories, with a max base size of 100x100mm.  Includes single figures, artillery bases, command stands, etc.
Open - Army! - Armies, Units, Dungeons, whole table setups, anything!

We're hoping to have over £400 worth of prizes up for grabs, so keep an eye out for those!

For all the rules, head over to our Forum: http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,9199.0.html

It's time to announce the prizes, and this year we've got over £500 worth of fantastic goodies on offer from some fantastic companies!

So, in each category there will be a winner and a runner-up, and each of those lucky folk will receive the following:

- The Winner of each category will receive £20 worth of Pendraken credit!
- The Runner-Up of each category will receive £10 worth of Pendraken credit!

In addition to the Pendraken prizes, there are also some special category-specific prizes, very kindly donated from our generous sponsors:

Foot - Pre-20th C. - A copy of both 'Hail Caesar' and 'Black Powder', donated by Warlord Games.

Hail Caesar
Hail Caesar is written by the hugely talented Rick Priestley who is something of an expert in Ancients gaming.  Partly because of his studying in antiquities but some would say that it's also because he was there for the most part.

Black Powder
Black Powder is a game for the militarily inclined gentlemen with straight backs, bristling beards and rheumy eyes that have seen a thing or two. If tales of battle and glory in days-gone-by stir nothing in your breast, if the roar of cannon does not quicken the pulse and set fire in the belly, then this is not the rule set for you.

For more info on this and their other offerings, head over to the Warlord Games website: http://www.warlordgames.com/

Foot - 20th C. - A goody bag from Warbases!

"Warbases are proud to support the Pendraken 2014 Painting Competition, visit our website at http://www.warbases.co.uk for a comprehensive range of bases, trays, building kits, wagons and general wargaming accessories."

For more info head over to the Warbases website: http://www.warbases.co.uk/

BONUS - As an extra prize, the runner-up in the category will receive a copy of Bolt Action, Warlord Games' WWII ruleset!

Mounted - £25 Voucher from Colonel Bill's Wargames Depot!

"Colonel Bill's is where the discerning collector and wargamer can recruit the figures he needs from our huge stocks of painted and unpainted 'used' items. Many of these items are rare or out of production."

For more info, go and visit the Colonel: http://www.colonelbills.com/

Vehicle - Subscription to "Miniature Wargames with Battlegames"!

MINIATURE WARGAMES, celebrating its 30th anniversary, merged with BATTLEGAMES in 2013 to create a powerful combined force in the wargames market. Each 80 page monthly issue is packed with articles focused firmly on the hobby, showcasing rules design, scenarios, terrain and scenery making, figure painting, refighting historical battles and the exciting and diverse worlds of non-historical gaming including fantasy, sci-fi, steampunk, pulp and other genres.

For more info, head over to their website: http://www.atlanticpublishers.com/magazines/miniature-wargames/

BONUS - The runner-up in this category will also receive an electronic subscription to Miniature Wargames with Battlegames as well!

Fantasy & Sci-Fi - £20 voucher, courtesy of Wargames Emporium!

"Wargames Emporium is situated in the Heart of Sheffield, located in Orchard Square up in the craft shops.  The store stocks a wide range of products for all your gaming needs, ranging from GHQ to Essex Miniatures, Games Workshop to Peter Pig to name a few, also stockists of Osprey books, Miniature paints, Scenery and Dice.  As well as the above there is a large selection of second hand items from all the above ranges.  The stock is increasing all the time so if you are in the area it will be well worth a visit.  Wargames Emporium can also be seen at all of the major UK shows."

For more info: http://www.wargamesemporium.co.uk/

Open - Single Base - £30 voucher, courtesy of 4Ground!

"4Ground provide a huge selection of MDF buildings and accessories, covering a wide selection of genre's and scales in both painted and unpainted options."

4Ground are constantly releasing new products, so head over to their website for more info: http://www.4ground.co.uk/

Total Battle Miniatures comprise of Mark Lambert and Pete Wilkes who have been wargaming longer than they care to admit. All the range is cast in the best possible materials using two part polyurethane resins for both the buildings and the flexible after cure terrain tiles."

BONUS - The runner-up in this category will also receive a Village Set from Total Battle Miniatures!

And there they are, a huge congratulations to all of our winners!  There was such a high standard of work this year that it was very difficult to pick out the winners, so thanks to our judges for their time as well!

For all of the Runners-Up, and the pics of all the other entries, head over to our Forum now: http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/board,80.0.html

Also, thanks to everyone who has taken part, I hope you enjoyed it and that it at least helped motivate you to get some painting done!

The Aart Brouwer People's Choice Award is now up online, where all the entries who achieved at least a point go into a public poll to decide a winner.  The voting will run until Monday night (because I'll be away getting married after that!), and the winner will receive a voucher for £20 worth of Minibits goodies!
