Sub-Roman "Fortlet"
« on: January 16, 2014, 10:24:22 AM »
Spurred on by Emilio's smashing build, I've put together a set of turf walls to go with the watch tower I built, to make it into a fortlet.

This is a view of the finished item.

And a work in progress shot. The turf banks are foam, with the timber palisade from balsa.

And a final shot, with the tower in place, and a garrison.

There's a full write-up with a "how-to" over on my blog.
http://mitchwargaming.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/fortlet-walls-for-watchtower.html
The blog post is a bit image-heavy.

This was meant to be a quick project, but two and half weeks fighting the chest infection from hell has slowed this down - a lot!

Enjoy!

Looks good  8) but maybe for next time a smoother 'join' between the model and the ground, it does seem to be floating a bit  :)

Nice job, Mitch, I love that old wood ;)

I had this idea of roman fort in my mind for a long time, and even a few sketches, maybe your work will make me hurry on this project... !

Nice tower too, and thanks for the WIP pictures !

Jim, hummed and hahhed about putting a bigger base on it to get round this. Thus far I'm sticking as is, but I might revisit (and re-base!) in the near future. That blanket I use as a base cloth/playing surface doesn't help in this regard :-[

Cheers,

M

That looks great, especially the treatment of the wood.

Really love what you have done.
I like the way the watch tower fits inside.
I also enjoyed looking over your blog.
Lots of great buildings you have made.
Will use many of your ideas when I build some of my own.

Looks great, Mitch! Nice simple design and components. Looks top notch once the tower is inserted.
