Warlord release picture of Cpl. Jones
« on: January 24, 2014, 02:54:51 PM »
Warlord have released a picture of Cpl. Jones from there 'Official' dads army figures.

I must say that I'm quite underwhelmed by this, it should be better than the old Foundry one & I don't think that this does that. Whether its just the angle of the figures in the picture.

& they've painted the gaiters the wrong colour!!

Inclined to agree with you Keith. They would have had to go some to top the Perrys' range for Foundry, and on the strength of this, they haven't managed it.

Still, I daresay all these extra Home Guard figures will still make their way into your beautiful Home Guard collection - perhaps just as bit part actors rather than in leading roles  ;)

I don't think I'll buy them, but hoping they bring out those odd DA heavy weaponry.

Yes, I will stick with my Foundry DA but I'm hoping for support weapons. I have a platoon of them painted and based with at least the same amount simply undercoated but unlikely to emerge from their storage box.

Nice scenario for them in the TFL Xmas Special, just need to buy the German Landing Party now (a platoon's worth).
Cheers,

I'm not sure I could find a use for the second figure, which I assume is part of the set.

It is well painted as one would expect by Darren Linnington, but I agree that the actual sculpt is a bit underwhelming, although I personally find that with the majority of Warlords stuff.

It does not really look like Corporal Jones in my opinion and again like a lot of Warlord stuff, it is strangely proportioned...

Shame really. :( As an official sculpt, it look less like the character than a lot of the 'not' bbc characters from other companies.

If they have the licence from the BBC I would have expected it to look much more like Clive Dunn in the role. Very poor likeness really there. I too will stick to the WF ones.

I'm a ridiculous Dad's Army fanboy (have the DVD box set and watched it all through several times) so I have a feeling I'll get these anyway. But looking at this and the latest Pike photos, I think they could've made Wojtek do the same, and I might file off the faces and have a try at a real likeness.

And I know who that Jonesy reminds me of now! Thought it looked a bit like Arthur Askey with a tache, but it's really Brian Wilde...

I wonder if Sergeant Wilson will be based on Frank Thornton.

Oh, and the Pike pic.

Now who does that really look like?

The figures are OK in themselves I think - they just don't look like the actors who played the parts. And indeed, those gaiters should be sandy-khaki not greeny-khaki.

I think the 'civilian' versions are likely to turn up a number of VBCW games and suchlike. If I ever get my VBCW campaign going I'd certainly consider getting these - but not using them as Jones and Pike!

Oh dear, Pike's no better  :?

Thing is I know that I will end up getting them anyway, it's just such a missed opportunity, I have my fingers crossed for the rest of them Being better.

& Red Orc the gaiters worn by Home Guard were Black, even when they had the regular ones the blacked them up
