Posted some photos and comments from our latest Victory Decision: Future Combat game.

Trying to figure out how to deal with some units that can roll 36 dice for combat is going to be tricky though

Thanks for posting the report.  Your comments on the volume of dice a unit can potentially generate concerns me.  One thing I don't like about Dust Warfare is how easy squads can be eliminated in a single round of shooting.  I guess the obvious solution would be to ban weapons that generate large #'s of dice in a standard rifle unit.

Great report! Again I had fun and the feel of accomplishing what I wanted while reading it.
 8)

Some comments:
"One concern that I did have in the game was there are a lot of units that have weapons that generate an enormous number of dice."

True, but keep in mind that it is absolutely up to you what weapons you choose.
And your pay high points for it.
And as you said once a unit is in cover it is a totally different story.
Use Hide actions, to make your enemy burn actions to spot you, use cover whenever you can.
Also - premeasure a lot, once you know the killer units simply avoid them, or kill them with indirect attacks. etc etc
If you can kill enough easy targets while avoiding the big hitters the Retreat! Scenario Special Rule come into play and your opponent has lost simply because he has lost to many units!

"The game certainly requires a bit more care and attention when it comes to planning and deploying your troops. You need to keep command formations close to your troops to try to help activate them and regroup them when they take fire. ...
They most definitely aren’t a simple game."

Exactly as intended, the game is no "no brainer", hopefully it is easy to learn but difficult to master...  8) 8)  ;)

And if it all is not working to the liking of you and your gaming group, tweak it to your preferences, or simply chose weapons that are more suited to your style of gaming!
cheers and keep on gaming, Agis - https://www.adpublishing.de

Thanks for replying on this thread, Agis. I was hoping you would.

Clarification on Dust Warfare:  I find those game mechanics frustrating in particular, because the standard rifle range in that game is very short: 16". Any unit that tries to move up so they can get in range of the enemy gets pounded by longer-ranged weapons and can be removed from the table without difficulty before they've had the chance to fire a single shot. As a result the "normal" rifle squads are difficult to use. I *like* using "normal" squads in my miniatures games and found it frustrating how difficult it was to use them effectively. Ymmv, of course.

I'll say that with Victory Decision: Future Combat, rifle squads at least have the range to reach the enemy without needing to leave cover and stand in the open!  o_o

Good report, Pixelgeek; ta. :) I hear ya about the attack dice, but I'm encouraged by yours and Agis' explanations that the player has to box clever.

I don't think we're going to be using the Sonic Carbines in the future. I think that the Sonic ability works well for support and heavy weapons but those Carbines were deadly.

Just out of curiosity, how expensive was the unit with the carbines?

550pts out of a total of 1717. I would not hesitate to pay that again though. The amount of firepower was more than worth the cost

IMO you can use the low tech list right out of the book...
(So no need to converting anything...)  ;)
