Osprey's Attila and the Huns has one plate showing a 13th bulgar cavalryman. Suggests that they looked similar to Russians, with segmented helmet with visor and long nasal, and chain mail shirt. Crosschecked Osprey's Armies of medieval Russia, and they do look similar. While the boohs don't provide much detail would think thet the Bulgars id not have the tear shaped Russian shields.

My take on all of the nomadic tribes of the time on the steppes was that they would wear whatever they came across either by raid or trade. The Khalka River 1223 Osprey has a painting of Kipchaks-both male and female- nobles wearing equipment that wouldn't look out of place in either a Rus or Mongol army. The Cumani had contact with the Rus and the Byzantines so their equipment was most likely to reflect this. The Bulgar lands also bordered the Rus and the Cumani so they most likely looked similar. The only difference being that they may have worn more furs as Bulgar was the centre of the Eurasian Fur trade.

My army was Cavalry heavy with lots of Light Cav—an oxymoron, no?
Dellis
Tartar Light Cavalry
Wallachian Light Cavalry
Hungarian Light Cavalry—no lances but spears
Balkan Light Cavalry
Cuman Horse Archers
I made my leaders from Asiatic Horse-People, Cossack War, Muscovite, and Varangians.

Try the Osprey Armies of the Volga Bulgars and Khanate of Kazan: 9th-16th Centuries. It has two editions.

Sorry no pics, the search was futile.

Luck!
