I'm off to find myself an oak tree big enough for decent bark. The saplings I've got in my garden want a couple of hundred years of growth before they're ready!

Smashing build, very useful and very authentic-looking. ;)
Measure with a micrometer, mark with chalk, cut with an axe, hammer to fit, paint to match!

They look very effective Giles. I've used play bark for mine and there's something very satisfying about painting them up! Cheers, Steve

It comes as a nugget so it makes a good rock. I'll try and take a shot of the stash I have and of the painted version.

that's a very clean build! I'd say, add some smaller rocks areas, to give the feeling of the rocky mountain more than odd rocky formations in a plain.

Moreover, i clicked on this thread thinking to find a Rocky Octopus. O.O

Fantastic effect, Eric. :)

Mitch: cork bark might not be as cheap, but you'd save the planet. ;) :D

Vermis, I've bitten back hard on my native tight-fistedness a few times and scratted about through every pet shop I can find looking for cork bark, and had no luck at all! Typical lol

I've seen loads of things made with bark before but never pieces this big! I wish I knew where to find some...

Those look great Eric! I love using bark nuggets for rocks. They really look the part.

I was looking at your cliffs tutorial and book marked it. I have an Afghanistan project in 28mm cookin' in the old noggin.
