Fishmen and Ferro Beasts
« on: January 29, 2014, 02:28:42 PM »
Some time ago I took some quick photos of my Fishmen I got from Wargames Foundry and I promised to take some better photos at a later point. As things turned out I never got around to do so, but now I found some other sci-fi Fishmen from Wargames Supply Dump and I thought it would be a good time to take out the two old Fishmen again.

And lately it seems that Rogue Trader Ferro Beasts have been the big thing in the Oldhammer community and of course I needed some of my own too. So after Christmas I put in an order with Black Tree Design and added a couple of their Rust Monsters to my order.

A couple of Marines get ambushed on a swampy Death World.

I found some old mushroom terrain from Scotia Grendel.

I think the Wargames Supply Dump Fishmen look a bit dated compared to the ones from Foundry, but they are good enough for me. I am thinking of using them as Lesser Fishmen, kind of a lower state of evolution to the more advanced Foundry Fishmen who are clever enough to use more equipment.

Wargames Supply Dmp Fishmen left and right, Foundry in the middle.

And a closer look at the Ferro Beasts together with a RT Medic.

The medic is not all finished yet, I need to add a Blood Angels logo to the red circle on the banner. I think I want to paint it on myself rather than use a transfer, but my free hand is not so good yet, so I want to practise some more before I give it a go.

Luckily these Ferro Beasts don't eat power armour.

very cool 8)

They look suitably menacing, and the blue certainly does the job of making them look nautical, but the skin structure looks more like fur than scales from the pictures.

But they work awesomely with that Medic and the beautiful terrain. Makes me want to pull out all stops and go crazy on the best possible terrain to play on. It must be a treat to game with such an ensemble.

One question regarding the backbanner of the Medic; I have that same mini (several, I believe), but not that banner. I think one of the two came with an original metal backpack sans banner and the other one arrived completely unburdened. Do you know if that is the original banner for this mini? I kind of like it, even though I usually freehand those on mine...

Looking great. I still have to finish my small handful of those ex Citadel beauties.

The banner is original, but very rare, I think the banner is worth a lot more than the actual mini  lol

The medic is one of my favourite RT era Marines. I have a couple of the model too, only one with the banner though.

I love the expressions (or lack of!) on the faces of the WSD fishmen. They look really gormless and disinterested, totally cold in the face of whatever future war they're witnessing. Just like I imagine fishmen would be! Great work all round, and Oldhammer-tastic.

Thanks. I also regret that I only bought two of the WSD fishmen, but I guess I can order more later  :D

That is an awesome scene. Love those fishmen and they look really natural attacking those beaky marines too. And that mushroom scenery is immense. Good work.  :D

Foundry make armed Fishmen?! Wargames Foundry?

Thanks.

And yes, the Wargames Foundry Fishmen are old unreleased GW Fishmen, but unfortunately they are not on sale at Foundry, they were a giveaway at some Rogue Trader events they had.

I was lucky to be able to obtain a pair.

Totally whimsical stuff which is certainly good. Love them all, fishmen, old style marines and the mushrooms. Are we going to see more of these quirky things, Jonas?

I certainly plan to paint much more of such stuff and hopefuly game with it too at some point.

Right now my plans are to finish a Marine assault squad, so I have more close combat power against the rising Ork tides in the area.

Besides that I plan to work on some more terrain, but my economy is telling me no right now, so I guess I must use what I have lying about for now.

That would be fine. I think I am better at buying and painting the weird stuff than actually putting it to any use.

I think most of my gaming ideas end up in army against army or a gamemastered roleplaying-like game. With the second usually being hard for 2 people as it needs 2 or more players and a gamemaster.
