Battlegroup Kursk; is the little book worth it?
« on: January 31, 2014, 06:26:57 PM »
After reading a few AARs and reading up on the rules, i would really like to try out the Battlegroup Krusk rules, but not sure if i want to buy the big rulebook and find i'm not that keen on the rules. And i'm a student so money is precious to me!

So, does anyone know if there is there are point in buying the small version on the rules (the core rules)?

The small rulebook just contains the rules, there are no army lists in it. And you need the army lists to play, it's not just points values and organization but also vehicle stats and so on in it.

If you ask Piers (or V on this forum) I'm sure he can give you some vehicle stats so you can play a game or two the get the feel of the game.

Or, you could download Dispatches 1 from the Ironfist Publishing website
http://ironfistpublishing.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/ATT_1380660299696_Dispatches-1.pdf
and use the army lists from Battlegroup Partisan to do some games, not the most extensive lists but I'll think they will work.

It's a great set of rules which I really can recommend, I'm certain you'll get hooked once you have tried it!

Cheers!

Thanks for the quick reply!

To be honest, i was thinking of using the rules for a low tech sci fi setting, basically WWII in a different setting, so organisation and all that is less important, but might be useful as a guide i guess.

In that case you'll do fine with just the small rulebook, it has everything you need!  :)

We will also have some free 'starter' scenarios out soon that will show orgs and vehicle details that might be useful for you.

I can tell you the system works fine for sci fi...  ;)
