Slightly surprised I've not seen them used yet, but I love the Forgeworld Skin Wolves. Not the cheapest... but really nice models!

For some reason the WW one illustrated above reminds me of Pickman's model ghoul. In the same vein Crocodile Games' ghouls could make 'alternate' werewolves.
