Old Glory Thracians 25mm
« on: February 10, 2014, 01:03:43 PM »
Hello gentlemen,

I had a look at Old Glory´s Thracian range today.

The pics of the minis are not really good. So no help to make a purchase decision.

I´m looking for better pictures of their Thracian 25mm range. Size comparison with Foundry World of Greek miniature would be also very useful.

Maybe there is one out there who can help.

Many thanks
Dr. Moebius

I havent bought any however assume they are quite a bit smaller. If you are on the lookout North stare/crusader
http://www.crusaderminiatures.com/list.php?cat=1&sub=36
have thracians and also there is a small line which fit in from A&A http://www.aandaminiatures.co.uk/view_product/?p=13

When I had a thracian army I also used peltasts to mix in expecially those with no fixed shields as it allows you to swap them out :D

Never seen them. But I wonder if you would consider having a look at other Thracian figures? Foundry and Crusader has some and they're great.

Thank you both guys,

I have already a huge collection of Foundry miniatures for the Thracians. Also I had a look at the crusader range but they are not really my taste.

I was just interested in the look of the Old Glory ones as they might have some interesting poses but as I said the pictures are really bad.

Maybe one day I will held them in my hands on a wargames show.

Cheers
Alex

Lots of folks love the Old Glory stuff, but after owning their Vikings, I'm very put off by the sculpting. So shoddy, I just knew I'd never bother to paint them, even as filler.

This chap here has them

Some of them are looking quite nice. But I'm not sure if they will be compatible to Foundry stuff because of different sculpting styles.

I wondered too also some scullpts tend to be true 25mm and the weapons very weak. The crusader and A&S are slightly chunkier but a better match. I think Warlord have a pack but they are small, Newline design have a small number and also the chap who did a discount range of ancients (cannot remember their name) used to do some IIRC

Many thanks for this. That´s what I was looking for.
Seems that you all are right. They lack detail and will be a little too small for my Foundry ones.

I think I will mix them with the Foundry Thessalian and Macedonean minis I have. Will do some noble cavalry in armour and swap shields.

Maybe this is getting my LPL ancients contribution  ;)

By the way. Has anyone an idea where to get seperate shields that might fit?

Newline design have a small number

I've got some Newline ones, they are lovely indeed and well sculpted though a bit on the small side. Definitely not that chunky.

Maybe this is getting my LPL ancients contribution  ;)

Good news, Alex, happy to hear you're going to participate, that will be a great fun :)

How many would you need? Maybe I could spare some (3-4), but have to check first. Could bring them to Tactica next week.

I know A&A miniatures used to sell packs of the shields but they are plain no texture

;) We will see. I´m really looking forward to participate though it all depends on my spare time in the next few weeks.

And yes, would be great to get the spare shields from you at Tactica Alex!
