Two weapon fighting.
« on: February 16, 2014, 07:59:47 PM »
Has any thought been given as to how to represent models with two Combat weapons? A talent similar to Gunslinger would work but the comparative benefit in Combat is allowed normally. (Splitting FV between two enemies)

Is it unthinkable to give a model two attacks at full Fight value if it comes as a 5 point (plus the cost of the weapon) Talent?

Or perhaps allowing a model to reroll one attack per turn. Similar to Intervention so it would be maybe a 7 point (plus the cost of the weapon) talent.

Thoughts?

I gave my Sikh the Gatka talent, identically to the Gunslinger talent but for melee.

Two attacks in melee against a single opponent or split his FV between two targets in melee.

I think it is only a talent for a highly trained close combat specialist.

You can split FV anyway.

I'd just just give them higher FV and maybe Martial Artist -- no need to clog down the game with extra rules.

You can consider the extra weapon just window dressing, or if you really want to pay points for it it's backup against those "weapon lost" results.

Looking at 3.4.2, twonoptions are:

* The figure may attack two figures he is in base to base contact with at full FV for each

* The figure may Fight one figure twice at full FV

A possible third option is to let him attack as many figures as the player wants, but FV must be divided among them all (min. +1).

Thanks for the input.

Maaxon's approach is the closest to my way of thinking to do it under the existing rules without adding anything. Martial Artist gives them an additional bit of defense in Combat only.

Another option could be to somehow boost the figures defense (use of a parry with one of the weapons), while simultaneously attacking with the other weapon.

We did not include a talent to do this for very good reasons.

Imagine facing a British Officer who has FV+4 and a Cavalry Sabre +2 such as Captain Napier. You want to give him the option to take two sabres and thus two attacks at full bonus of +6? The man would become a one man butcher's shop!

The rules are written to reflect a little bit of reality. Either you concentrate your attack on a single figure, which under the current combat rules you mostly shall be doing as figures are paired off wherever possible (IHMN 3.2.3), or you split your focus and slash away at two or more opponents at reduced chance to hit (IHMN 3.4.2).

If we look at the standard armament of men of the time, except in the East, most men concentrated on wielding a single fighting weapon. The most potent combination, and one most frequently seen was the Pistol and Sword (IHMN 3.3.4).

However, as always, if you agree this house rule with your opponents then this is fine with us.
