Old Demon World range is being sold again, I think from Ral Partha.

They are.  LINK
And they paint up quite nicely.  LINK   ::)

Well, I've made some painting progress http://isentropicendoscope.blogspot.co.nz/2014/03/15mmfantasyskirmish-some-painting.html, read David Splintered Light's Fantasy Skirmish rules (which look very good - just need to play them, now), received some excellent Hobgoblins from Splintered Light, and painted up some adventurers and some orcs (also from SL).

Hoping for more progress in the coming week.

Greetings All,

I've succumbed to the lure of 15mm Fantasy and want to try skirmish level games. At the moment, I'm looking at figures by Splintered Light and Ral Partha's Blight Haven and Swordplay by Two Hour Wargames as rules, though I'd like something with a bit more Magic in it.

Swordplay is basically a free preview. The "full" rules, notably Warrior Heroes, Armies n Adventures, have more extensive magic rules (which are looking good to me - haven't tested them yet, though).

Thanks for the info, Zorg. I see Warrior Heroes - Legends on the Two Hour Wargames site. Is Armies and Adventures a different version? Or an earlier one?

An earlier one and a slightly different one.

There are actually far more 15mm mini makers than I expected.  IYHO, who do you think makes the nicest minis in this scale?

I like the Demonworld ones most. I've not painted any Khurasan, but I have painted some of their sci-fi 15s and if the quality is anything similar they're very good too. Splintered Light seem to have some very good sculpts, mixed with some average. Not so fond of Chariot minis, and can't really comment on Blood Dawn.

Blood Dawn Orcs are good. Here you have two of them I painted as 10mm Ogres:
