Time for some thrilling heroics - Pulp Alley Firefly
« on: March 10, 2014, 07:17:03 PM »
I got this strange idea during the weekend as I was found some Heresy Firefly(ish) figures on my desk. I had thought before what system could work for games in the settingn but could not come up with anything suitable. Later I got my hands on Pulp Alley and I think it could actually be quite on spot for some Firefly action: heroic shoot-outs and close combat, nice twists and turns of events with the cards and of course plenty of possibilities for leagues (spaceship crews, bounty hunters, military, spec ops etc.). The only problem I can think of is that the number of sidekicks is quite limited. I'm not sure is that a problem either, the pilot or mechanic types can be allies or followers who you really do not want to be in the heat of the battle anyway. Also, the 'Verse as a setting is quite nice in terms of scenery and terrain: you could play on almost any terrain bits you already have as the scenarios could be take place on moons, planets or spaceships or stations, with almost any kind of terrain available. What do you think?

I was wondering when someone might take up such a project. Heresey makes some nice minis, but have you looked at Crooked Dice's "Group Captain Jim Barrowight" as an alternative Captain Mal?

I think he makes an interesting alternative.

There were some non-Firefly figures done as part of the last Blackwater Gulch kickstarter as well. I don't know how close they are. Sedition Wars did some too, but they're so thin and small that they wouldn't look right mixed with other figure lines. :(

This is a great idea, top marks for creativity

With the exception of the not-Kaylee the figures done for Blackwater Gulch do not resemble Firefly much at all

Oh heck yeah! Pulp Alley was made for Firefly style gaming!

Only problem I see is if you start running a Firefly game you'll have to pay for a plane ticket for Mila to come play with you too. So... there's that to consider.  ;)

Oh, what about using the Terror rules to design a River type character. A one-girl wrecking machine!  lol lol

HAVE FUN

There is a Reaper cowgirl figure that actually looks a lot like Zoe. She was included in their first Bones kickstarter, but I think is also available in metal.

Figure wise Reaper seem to have most of what is needed without to much converting. Firefly DVD has been in almost constant use for a number of years. Pity that the show first aired in the States against Football...and here in Australia on a Wednesday night at Midnight. Otherwise we would still be enjoying some terrific Space Western fun and mayhem. Serenity the movie was a let down, they made a total hash of the story lines and subplots.
A good place to get ideas for games would be the Serenity RPG, it also goes into a little more depth about Rivers issues...might make it easier to tailor Perks and Attributes for her......hmm may have to add this to the "must play these themes" list.

Has anyone mentioned Sargeant Major miniatures yet?

The crew members are chunky, but I quite like the Space cannibals.

I have to admit my ignorance, I've never seen Firefly!  :'(

However, to put things right, I have ordered the complete series on DVD!  :D

I still don't understand whether this topic is about SF gaming with Pulp alley rules or transferring the Firefly setting into Pulp and gaming it with Pulp Alley?
