Er... is there any kind of announcement or anything by WRG? Can you give us a hint of how different it is to the previous edition? Is it actually readable now? Hardback of soft? Are you going to Salute?

Hi

It is an A4 paperback so is a lot more readable.

There are only some minor amendments which include the changes that a lot of people use for movement of Warband and Shooters.

The pages have been reordered a little and the diagrams are now at the end of the rules.

There are some additional army lists.

And yes I will be at Salute... :-)

Ta Mike. Although when I said 'readable', I meant 'has some of the barkerese been translated?' I think that would almost justify the cost of the book over the free download, by itself.

TBH that £15 price tag is putting me off.......I'm not a member of the HOTT Yahoo group anymore. Does anyone know if a cheaper PDF will become available?

I don't believe that WRG have plans to release any of their new rules as PDFs.

The new HOTT is an 86 page A4 softback with perfect spine and colour covers.  I think £14.99 is a good price for it.

Nah. I only paid about 8 quid for a new copy of the first edition with perfect spine and colour covers about 5 years ago. No colour pics inside the new edition either. I'd pay about a tenner for a printed copy, and it's B&W format makes it printer-friendly if a PDF was released. Not good IMO that the WRG's releases join the pricey rules set brigade.

Not to poo-poo your own personal preferences, but I don't think you know what a pricey ruleset is.

£8 for a book of a ruleset over twenty years old (AFAIK) and discontinued over ten years ago, is not surprising. £15 is more, but for a new book to do maybe the next twenty-odd years, and compared to a Warlord or Plastic Soldier main rulebook, or a book for a single army from GW (or even the price of the minis to go with them these days) doesn't seem entirely unreasonable.

Yet Crusader/North Star can publish A4 books with colour pages for between 10 and 15 quid (albeit with a lower page count). I've rejoined the HOTT Yahoo group so I'll ask about a PDF version over there.

If someone explains to me the economic reasons why this edition costs £15 I'll eat humble pie, but again I think HOTT is ideal for publication as a PDF with no ink-consuming colour pages.

I got the first copy of the rules and was a fairly active member of the yahoo group when they wrote and play tested the second edition, I'd expect some major rewriting and lots of nice pictures from rules that cost £15.00 now 

To be frank, I rather liked the first edition, yes they were written in Barkese and you had to play them and interpret the rules as you went along, but that was half the fun. The second edition kind of made the game a lot more "competition" orientated and I think it kind of lost it's way a bit. I miss the banter as players try to fight the battle as well as the rules.

I have been selling my HOTT armies off on ebay lately. maybe this will push the ditherers into parting with their hard earned so all news, is good news I suppose.

Oh good, it wasn't just me who found it incomprehensible.   I thought it would make sense if I read dba.

I would have packed it with photo diagrams instead of pushing them to the back.  Sigh.

I have been selling my HOTT armies off on ebay lately.

I have just started using my HotT armies for Mayhem wargames instead.
They have more flexibility, are easily understandable and cost $9.99 for the pdf and free updates.
I'm afraid it's a "no brainer"
